  • How do I apply for a place at your nursery school?

All applications for Ballymena Integrated Nursery School are made through the Education Authority’s online system. You complete one application and list our nursery as one of your preferences. The EA website explains who can apply, key dates, and what documents you need to upload. You can find the current step-by-step guide at: https://www.eani.org.uk/parents/admissions/pre-school-admissions-guide

  • What is your admissions criteria?

EA publishes the criteria each year. If applications exceed places, the criteria are used to rank offers. Check what evidence is needed and keep copies. (Link will be available later in November)

  • What is integrated education?

Integrated education in Northern Ireland brings children, staff and families from different religious, cultural and community backgrounds together in the same school. The aim is that children learn with, and from, one another in an atmosphere of respect and inclusion.

In an integrated nursery school, this means your child will:

    • Learn and play alongside children from a mix of traditions and family backgrounds.
    • Hear about different celebrations and beliefs in an age-appropriate way.
    • Experience a caring setting that welcomes children of all faiths and none

  • Can I book a tour of the nursery?

Yes, we would love for you to see our nursery school in action. Our Open Day is 4th December 4:30 pm - 6:30pm or you can email to arrange at info@ballymeains.ballymena.ni.sch.uk

  • Do you accept mid-year transfers?

Sometimes. Places depend on current numbers. Contact the office and we will explain the steps.

  • How do you support additional needs

We work with families early, follow EA guidance, and agree clear plans. Staff adapt provision and review progress together.

  • Is there a uniform?

    Yes. See prospectus

  • How do you share updates and messages?

We use our chosen parent app (Seesaw), social media and email for key information. Keep your contact details up to date and check notifications regularly.

  • What if my child has allergies or dietary needs?

This information is collected during settling in period and can be updated throughout the year. Staff can create or work with an existing care or health plan.

  • What is your approach to behaviour?

We see behaviour as communication. Staff use the Solihull Approach and the 3Rs, regulate, relate, reason, to help children calm, reconnect, and learn.

  • Do you use rules the children can understand?

Yes. We teach simple Golden Rules such as being gentle, being kind and helpful, listening, working hard, being honest, and looking after property.

  • How are conflicts between children handled?

Adults support co-regulation, help children name feelings, and agree a repair such as an apology or sharing plan, with positive language reinforced.
